Churchwide Consultation To Be Webcast

Delighted to receive this update from the Office of Public Affairs that the plenary sessions from our upcoming Churchwide Consultation on the SCLM process implementing resolution C056's call for the collection and development of resources for the blessing of same-gender realtionships will be webcast.

The resolution specifically charged us -- the church -- to develop "an open process for the consideration of theological and liturgical resources for the blessing of same gender relationships" ... and making that open process even MORE "open" by inviting anybody who wants to to tune in is a great step forward AND a great blessing to the work. So check it out ... here's the update from 815. And tune in next week if you can ... when we'll be "Live from Atlanta!"

Here's what we're doing in Atlanta:

We will discuss the progress made by the SCLM in response to the GC Resolution passed in 2009 regarding Rites of Same Gender Blessing.

We will not debate whether those Rites (and accompanying resources) should be collected or developed. That debate already happened in Anaheim.

And we will not decide how to use the resources we’re collecting and developing, although we will explore some possibilities while in Atlanta. That debate will happen in Indianapolis.

The holy privilege of this Consultation is that of being in this particular moment of the life of the church, listening deeply, and reflecting together on what the SCLM is developing to bring to the whole church for its consideration at General Convention 2012.

Thanks for the information. With that said, gross.

And also with you.

Susan+ I just finished watching an HBO program with Bugs bunny hosting a coyote and roadrunner marathan. So I'd spent the last hour rolling around on the floor, laughing my butt off...that poor coyote, try as he might...then came here to read your 'and also with you' statement, and I about fell off my chair.

Sorry MartinT that i found it so funny; no disrepect intended!

anyway, for the rest of the day, i can't help but view the wringing of hands over SSB... as a coyote and roadrunner moment in church history!

the Lord be with all of you

We had a very moving blessing ceremony a week and a half ago, where our Cathedral family celebrated our marriage with a special Eucharist. So we're all in favor of developing a liturgy for this.

Then there's MartinT:

With that said,gross.

Well, thank you very much. Not.

However, it does rather confirm the assertion that the "conservative" views have nothing to do with God, church, or theology - it is all about it being "icky" to them.

Martin ... I think that's just about enough. I've "moderated" your last comment and invite you to re-read it through the lens of loving your neighbor as yourself and see if that's really what you want to be posting on Ash Wednesday.

Meanwhile, I'll be preaching in about 30 minutes and shortly thereafter have another sermon for ya'll to chew on.

Blessings!

I don't see anything wrong with what I said in response to Mark, but it's your blog. I see it as tough love, Ash Wednesday or otherwise.

MarkBrunson said...

Thank you, Susan, but don't put yourself to trouble on my account. We are blessed when men curse and revile us and say all manner of evil falsely against us for Jesus' sake.

Nicole Porter said...

No one said anything false against you or anyone else Mark. I promise you that.

MarkBrunson said...

You miss the point, Martin . . . it doesn't matter what you said.

It's Lent. Don't be so full of yourself.

Nicole Porter said...

It does indeed matter Mark, I was just letting you know that what I said (that Susan thought didn't need to be made public), I wasn't lying. That is all. Call it what you will. Anyway, I hope we all use Lent as a time to turn from sin, not dwell and roll in it.

Martin T, why do you post here? You come here and pontificate at us; you have no interest in hearing what we say or in learning anything from this community. You just like to poke us with a stick, and often say the most hurtful and cruel things as you do so.

Why do you bother? What sort of twisted pleasure do you get out of this? Why do you need to insult people who don't share your particular scriptural interpretations? You never say anything new, it's the same tired thing over and over.

We get that you can't stand us, that you think LGBT people are unrepentant and icky sinners and the lowest of the low. We get that you resent like hell that TEC actually accepts and blesses us. We get that you don't feel special in your straight privilege anymore and that you're angry that your voice is no longer dominant.

Why you feel the need to come back day after day to the blog of an activist lesbian priest to tell us so, makes no sense to me.

I think you are a sad little troll, taking an ugly little pleasure in hurting other people.

And I suggest to the rest of the posters here, who actually want to discuss the topics of Susan's posts, that we simply ignore Martin T.

Don't bother to engage him, he's not listening anyway. He just wants attention for his bitterness, and the more we let him hijack the conversation the more successful he feels.

Wrong,IT. Some of the new canons in TEC accept and "bless" you, not every one in TEC agrees with that. What happened was that you just got ENOUGH people to agree with it and put it to a vote when it seemed plausible to pass. It doesn't make it right nor holy. Your side in particular has nothing new to offer either. But what we do have is scripture, tradition AND reason on our side. Nothing is reasonable about what has been taken place in our Church since 2003. I mean, why? Just so you can feel secure in your actions you put miters on those who commit the same actions? And I don't hate anyone so stop saying I do. I don't like what is happening to the Anglican Communion because of this sexuality debate and yes, I make it known here. I can't make it known in my own parish even though I'm certain that they have a clue. I heard what people said here and I do listen. What you don't like, IT, is that my beliefs haven't been changed by it. But say whatever you like about me IT, whatever helps you get through the day and sleep at night. It's all about "breaking glass ceilings" to you people. Well you broke them alright, and everything along with it.
