Mary Had A Baby

(Photo: Courtesy White House - Via: Washington Post)

[from the Washington Post] Mary Cheney gave birth today to perhaps the most anticipated baby in contemporary U.S. politics -- her first child, Samuel David Cheney, whom she will raise with her longtime partner Heather Poe.

The 8-pound, 6-ounce boy is the sixth grandchild for Dick Cheney. The vice president and his wife Lynne, both beaming, posed for a photo with the baby just hours after his 9:46 a.m. birth at Washington's Sibley Hospital.

  1. I note that the official photo does not include the actual parents of the baby. Wonder if the White House will post a pic of Mary and Heather with the baby? Somehow, I doubt it.

I don't know how the Cheneys manage to keep the cognitive dissonance in their brains from exploding into a million little pieces.

  2. It is precisely what I say it is: neither more, nor less, to paraphrase a priest.

That's "beaming"?! Eek. Pray for Samuel, and his mommies.

Maybe (and I'm guessing here) they love their daughter even though they don't love what she is doing. "Hate the sin, love the sinner" and all that.

Mary Cheney responded to questions, saying: "This is a baby. This is a blessing from God. It is not a political statement. It is not a prop to be used in a debate by people on either side of an issue. It is my child."

Good for her. It speaks well for her character.
