We do SO have fall in California!

It has come to my attention that there are those who think we don't do "seasons" in Southern California. Au contraire!! It's a little like those who think liberals don't do theology or progressives don't do Jesus. The difference is, this misapprehension is easier to refute.

Here endeth "Fall: Southern California Style." Maybe we'll do theology and Jesus next week!

    I wanna come to dinner at *your* house! We're only having pork chops & scalloped potatoes.

    But... I AM doing a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for Nam's family this week: turkey, dressing, the works! They've never had it. Nam swears his brother-in-law won't eat anything without fish sauce.

    We'll see. I will be in the kitchen ALL DAY Wednesday.

    And, yes, our maples (sweet gums?) are in color. I've also camped in Yosemite in late October, and it is definitely a "fall" experience. Not like it was when I was growing up in New England, to be sure...

    Dear Rev. Russell:

    No doubt you have a smattering of trees that oblige and qualify for "fall."
    Speaking as a native Southern Californian there is no "color tour" like a Michigan color tour.
    Every street, boulevard and bumpy rural road ablaze in every color of the rainbow.
    Not gloating, but after picking up and burning piles of leaves this week, we want to preserve the one wonderful weather trait that we have that others don't.
    In a month or so we'll be dealing with piles of snow and plunging temps, so please, please let us keep the pride of our "fall."

    AND, fall in southern California is better than fall in 90% of the rest of the country because it LASTS so long! We don't see the last of "color" on the trees until around Christmas! Then, there's the bit of not having four months of flannel skies and slush to look forward too.

    John, there's no joy of resurrection without a crucifixion. We wouldn't have Easter without Good Friday.
