Well, if Borg is correct, and Biblical literalism "Empties churches" how does he account for the empty ECUSA and Anglican parishes? No one has accused them of any such thing in ages. Boy, what sub-intellectual crap. I heard the NPR interview too. Only a clown like this could get a positive sermon out of it. Typical sub christian crap. No resurrection, "Happy Easter!" Welcome Muslims, etc...What will you do, and this MUST make you think once in a while, what will you do when even the bored liberals at your parish decide they just don't *need* to get up on Sunday....To be told they can do anything, believe anything. They can do that lying in bed! Further, they can get up at noon and if they feel like it do a "eucharist" in their kitchen. Who says they can't? Some "authority" figure to lay a guilt trip on them concerning "ordained" people as opposed to "not" ordained? Your job security is very close to being nil. But hey, happy easter.

ReplyDeleteOur church has volunteer lay Eucharistic ministers who bring the Eucharist to the kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms of those unable to get to church. God bless them, every one.

Ah, Uffda you ignored what I said. I said (pretty clearly I thought) that *anyone* can do the eucharist themselves in ECUSA. Care to prove otherwise? What would "happen" to them if they did? If there is no resurrection, no real reason to be a christian, what possible reason is there to bring anything but food to a shut in? And what's the difference between that and a government program? Why not welcome Muslims. Indeed, why not? You ARE Muslims! And please don't act offended; there's nothing wrong with being a Muslim, is there? This is a little more actual questioning than you usually get in an ECUSA parish, but try and think it through.

ReplyDeleteOnly a minute to weigh in, as I'm off to celebrate Eucharist but here's the bottom line ... it's called "the mystery of faith" and it's what we "therefore proclaim" everytime we gather at All Saints Church:
Christ has died
Christ has risen
Christ will come again.
May not be "Christian" enough for you, but -- per your quetion about "why not stay in bed" over 4000 folks chose to drag themselves out of bed and celebrate Easter with us at All Saints last week. (There will be few fewer this week! :)
Yes, there were some Muslims among them. And some Jews. And we were enriched by their presence. Just as we are blessed when they invite us to share in Seder or Eid. It's how we live out the Gospel ... how we follow Jesus ... how we understand ourselves to be living out our baptism.

Now this would make it completely embarrassing for an actual Muslim to listen to. Unless they have Muslims like you got Anglicans, you know, Ann Redding? The Episcopalian/Muslim in Seattle? I guess it makes sense there might be people who are Muslim/Episcopalians who see nothing contradictory in attending both an Episcopal church and a Mosque. Come to think of it, where else would you be more likely to see such a creature than in an Episcopal church? It all makes sense now. They aren't too clear about what Muslims or Christians believes, neither is Redding, neither are you. It's nice you can have a place to gather in confusion, tho why you pick Sunday is a mystery. It's no mystery at all to see why people who *can* tell the difference leave the Episcopal Church.
