So what's going on in California today, anyway?

Here's a quick lunch-break-blog with links to "stuff" of interest around the landmark case -- AKA "Perry v. Schwarzenegger" -- challenging the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8.

Want the "back story" on how the case came to be? Read this facinating "inside baseball" piece in California Lawyer Magazine: "Challenging Prop 8: The Hidden Story"

Want to read Ted Olson's brilliant essay on why same-sex marriage is an American value? Read Newsweek's "The Conservative Case for Gay Marriage."

Want to know what Andrew Sullivan thinks about it all? Check out his blog "Ted Olson: A Conservative for Civil Rights."

Want to keep up with the testimony in spite of the ill-advised Supreme Court block on televising the proceedings? Check out the Prop 8 Trial Tracker with Live Blogging Updates from the Court.

Want to listen to a radio segment on the whole issue, including an interview with yours truly tomorrow morning? Tune in to KPFK 90.7 (in the L.A. market) or log on uprisingradio.org beginning at 8 a.m. Pacific Tuesday morning, January 12th.

Here endeth the lunch-break-blog. We now return to our regularly scheduled to-do-on-Monday list!

UPDATE: Here's a link to the text of Ted Olson's Opening Statement

SOME COMMENTS ABOUT COMMENTS: •Feel free to disagree, but if you disagree, give a reason. • Please stay with the thread -- the place to post long articles on other topics is your own blog. • Challenging ideas will get a conversation going; attacking individuals will get a comment deleted.•

FINALLY: If you comment, your words are yours to do with as you please, but I reserve the right to cite them in other contexts.
