Colin Powell Steps Up on DADT

As reported today in the NYTimes:

“In the almost 17 years since the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ legislation was passed, attitudes and circumstances have changed,” General Powell said in a statement issued by his office. He added: “I fully support the new approach presented to the Senate Armed Services Committee this week by Secretary of Defense Gates and Admiral Mullen.”

  1. Good, given that 17 years ago, Colin Powell was telling the same committee that "Open" homosexuality was "incompatible with military service". What a difference time makes. Nice to know that some folks can change their minds.

  2. Influential, intelligent, reasonable conservatives can change their minds and take a public leadership stance.

Now if only the ABC would simply state “I fully support the new approach presented by TEC," and that there is nothing "incompatible" with full LGBT equality and the mission of the church .. ."
