+Katharine on San Joaquin

"The Episcopal Church receives with sadness the news that some members of this church have made a decision to leave this church," said Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori.
.
"We deeply regret their unwillingness or inability to live within the historical Anglican understanding of comprehensiveness. We wish them to know of our prayers for them and their journey. The Episcopal Church will continue in the Diocese of San Joaquin, albeit with new leadership."

Read the rest here ... and give thanks for the strong leadership and clear voice of our Presiding Bishop during this "time of trial."

The time of trial hasn't started yet. When the images in the popular press speak, no amount of PR will cover up the fact that TEC is hiding how it is prosecuting its churches and bankrupting its members. Only the inner circles are believing the 815 spins. Only the high tower progressive parishes in metropolitan pockets support the spin. The majority of the Church is speaking and the numbers show that the support isn't there for such leadership. Forget "As the Anglican World Turns" and tune in to "815 Law". The courtroom scenes have been a blast as Presiding Bishop wiggles and squirms were last seen on the stand in Virginia. The media didn't print official pictures of the Presiding Bishop in consecration regalia. They printed pictures of real people undergoing the strain of the mess. It just ain't looking good to most people...and they make up the courts that count.

allen ... and who is it that's responsible for those "real people" undergoing all that stress? The shismatics who have plotted, planned, orchestrated and now accomplished this split in the church they failed to create in their own image.

Don't believe me ... ask Ephraim Radner.

Susan,

You're right to a point. Schism was no answer. Dr. Rader was right to that extent as are you. But it was the way to start asking another question that could be answered later by reconciliation. When the place at the table is the kids table and one is lampooned as less intelligent for holding traditionlist values then it's time to get out. That the Diocese of San Joaquin is getting out isn't so much the shock. The shock is yet to come when TEC wonders how it got itself kicked out of the Anglican Communion. Other than satisfied elements who couldn't care less, I think that such a future action will energize a great many laity who are already fed up with sitting at the kids table while their rector wonders if Jesus rose, is alive, or if it's OK to read Muslim scripture during the Service (National Cathedral gets that credit). Take the pulse outside of California and outside of your fellow companions and you might find that schism was the only way to start a new discussion...away from the kids table.

A modest proposal:

These people have deliberately seceded from the Episcopal Church, thereby taking themselves out from under the protections of Canon Law and the Church. No need now to waste time with procedural niceties. Come down on them like a ton of bricks! Replace Schofield without further delay.
