O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen?
Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save?
Why do you make me see wrongdoing and look at trouble?
Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.
So the law becomes slack and justice never prevails.
The wicked surround the righteous— therefore judgment comes forth perverted.
The Prophet Malachi's Complaint

Thank you for this. I am weeping and sick to my stomach. I live in Florida and I teach young black boys in 1st grade. There lives are already marked by so much injustice even at the age of six.

I pray for the family of Trayvon Martin, and his friends, neighbors, and classmates.

I pray for my home state where justice has become a mockery and racism grows ever deeper and stronger.

I pray for George Zimmerman and his family, friends, neighbors, and supporters that they may someday mourn the wrong that he has done and make amends.

May God have mercy on us all.

No matter what the motivations or actions of either Zimmerman and Martin were, the loss of a 17-year-old boy is a tragedy. The courts and jury have spoken on the law, and rightfully so I think. Justice is a different matter.

I don't presume to know what was in Zimmerman's or Martin's hearts. Those who claim they do are wrong. And those who claim they know what justice is in this case are wrong. There's a reason why God said "Vengance is mine", and I suspect it's because only He knows what is in people's hearts and thus only He is capable of dispensing justice.

I mourn Martin's death. I pray for justice. And I am sure that we will receive it, in God's own time.
