Combating Hate Crime Lies

OK folks, remember how we're "keeing an eye on the other side?" Well, so is the HRC ... and they're working on an action to keep the noxious video "Speechless: Silencing The Christians" ... from airing on television.

“Make no mistake. This is the opening salvo in a campaign designed to denigrate LGBT Americans and deny us our basic rights,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "Just as our community is at a point where measures protecting millions of Americans heads to Congress and a willing President, the AFA unleashes 60 minutes of lies and distortions to scare voters. The AFA and its allies have never been 'speechless' when it comes to promoting their own agenda, and that's driving a wedge in the very places where LGBT Americans work, live and even pray.”

After you check out what my friend Harry Knox has to say, consider clicking here to join the HRC action alert.

HRC is is reporting that the Michigan station pulled the video.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - WOOD TV8 has rescinded the offer to air a controversial paid program originally set to air Monday.
“Speechless: Silencing Christians” was scheduled to air Monday at 7 p.m ., in the slot immediately before President Barack Obama’s prime time press conference. The program was pulled from that slot.
The producers were contacted and offered another time slot.
In a statement Wednesday, WOOD/WOTV/WXSP General Manager Diane Kniowski said the offer is now off the table.
“We made a gesture of the 2-3 p.m. Saturday time period. It’s been 24 hours and we had no response,” Kniowski said. “Our station is being bombarded with calls and messages, and we find ourselves in the middle of someone else’s fight. Ours was a fair offer and we are removing ourselves from this matter.”

Unfortunately, by fighting to keep this program (which is admittedly full of lies and untruth) off the air, the HRC is playing right into the hands of the AFA. They are, in effect, attempting to stop or "silence" the AFA's message from being heard on this television station.

As much as I hate it and oppose the message contained in the program, I say let it be heard. Let it be heard and then refute it with the Truth. The ugly lies will be exposed and, yes, there is a chance some may believe it, but there is also a chance many will be turned off by the hatred the AFA espouses. Often, once hatred is exposed to the light, it withers and dies. We must counter untruth with Truth, expose the lies for what they are, and keep working for justice and equality.

Yes, the AFA makes my stomach turn, but I don't believe trying to silence their message is the right choice in this instance.

And yet I bet you'd scream "censorship" to high Heaven if a group bombed a TV station and tried to get your message suppressed. You're actually feeding directly into their message. You guys are going to end up as your own worst enemies.

As per your earlier post, I went by the bigot site to respond to their bs questionnaire.

Which got me added to two different hatemonger mailing lists.

In addition to pressing "unsubscribe," I sent a reply to the effect that "I never subscribed to your odious, hatemongering slanderlist," and suggesting that if I received even one more unsolicited email from them I would sue for criminal harassment.
