With the announcment of the March 5th Supreme Court hearing on Prop 8, "The Courage Campaign" has launched a "let our voices be heard" campaign.

And here's the letter they're asking us to sign:
We, the undersigned, share President Barack Obama's view that "for too long, issues of LGBT rights have been exploited by those seeking to divide us. It's time to move beyond polarization and live up to our founding promise of equality by treating all our citizens with dignity and respect."
Yet, on December 19, 2008, Ken Starr and the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund filed legal briefs defending the constitutionality of Prop 8 and seeking to nullify the 18,000 same-sex marriages conducted between May and November of 2008.
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in this case on March 5, 2009, with a decision expected within the next 90 days. We, the undersigned, ask that the Court invalidate Prop 8 and recognize the marriage rights of these 18,000 couples -- and all loving, committed couples in California -- under our state's constitution.
As Americans who believe in the rule of law and fundamental civil rights, we know that Ken Starr and the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund's shameful attempt to nullify these unions will not be vindicated in the eyes of history. We know that, ultimately, love will prevail, no matter how hard they try to fight it.
Sincerely,

Heart breaking!
I agree with the letter except as a non-American but permanent resident I'm a bit hesitant to sign it.
I couldn't help but notice this in the Washington Post the other day. So much for commitment:
The Associated Press

BOSTON -- A lesbian couple who led the fight for gay marriage in Massachusetts has filed for divorce. Julie and Hillary Goodridge were among seven gay couples who filed a lawsuit that led to a court ruling making Massachusetts the first state to legalize same-sex marriages in 2004. The couple became the public face of the debate in the state and married the first day same-sex marriages became legal.
The divorce case was filed last week in Suffolk Probate and Family Court and was not unexpected. The couple announced they were separating in 2006.
Signed.
And no straight people got divorced this year?
50% of straight marriages end in divorce. But one lesbian couple divorces, and all homosexuals are incapable of commitment?
Feh.
Signed with pleasure and much hope!
Having been the victim of a divorce AGAINST MY WILL in 1990 after having been maliciously abandoned, costing my a great deal of money and inflicting severe emotional damage, I would like to see the Church do everything it can to prevent ALL divorces, whatevever the gender of the partners. MARRIAGE IS FOR LIFE! Christian marriage is about commitment, not one kind of sexuality or another.
We're a straight couple who, have the most wonderful friendship/marriage. However, this is the 2nd marriage for each of us. It would seem absurd for the government to declare our current marriage void because of any religious viewpoint. What would a "Don't Divorce Us!" video with all the heterosexual, second-time-around-straight-marriage, look like? What biblical verse forbids divorce/remarriage? Or perhaps the real question is, what constitutional law allows it?
