No wonder Jesus wept.

This video clip of Michele Bachmann speaking to the Family Research Council in Washington is making the rounds. After vowing to weaken social safety net programs such as Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, and unemployment benefits, Bachmann said that if you are not working, you should not be eating
.“Our nation needs to stop doing for people what they can and should do for themselves. Self reliance means, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat."

Contrast that to what Bishop Robinson had to say about the Occupy Movement last night on The Rachel Maddow Show:
"It seems to be about the dollars – and of course it is and the figures are terrible as the wealth has become concentrated in the hands of so few. But the emotional content is that it seems that we as a people are mourning that we are becoming a society. I don’t want to live in a country where it’s every man, woman and child for themselves. I think that’s an awful existence and I think the cries of pain we hear from this movement are the cries of the loss of that kind of community."
And then "Choose this day" people.

Choose this day.

Does dear Michelle know that "He who does not work, neither shall he eat" was enshrined in the 1936 Constitution of the U.S.S.R.?

Self reliance means . . .

That's a bit rich, coming from her!

Curiously, I also don't recall self-reliance being one of those Biblical principles she constantly touts. I guess Stephen and the others were entrusted to go around to widows, orphans, etc. and say, "Get a job, you damned commie!"

Fortunately, Republicans are figuring out that they cannot possibly win with her dogmatic looney-toon campaign. Which is why she is running a poor 5th in the four person test surveys and staffers are leaving in droves. I think she is a side show, and that is fair.

Your obsession with Bachmann is quite curious. You're one of the few paying any attention to her and I'm a bit baffled as to why.

The GOP establishment is doing everything they possibly can to make Romney the nominee. Sadly, I think they'll make sure he is. Anything to keep the status quo in place.

The grassroots Tea Party is more focused on Senate & House races than the presidency. If they have to pick a candidate, the majority are backing Cain.

The grassroots OWS doesn't appear to have any interest in politics. However there have been a few signs with Ron Paul on them (which also baffles me)

Middle America is downright disappointed (again) at the choices being offered so probably won't make any decisions until they're forced to.

LOL ... Yep. I'm obsesseed with Michele Bachmann in exactly the same way I'm "obsessed" with Kim Kardashian, Rick Perry, Lindsay Lohan -- or any of the other public voices out there who are gifts-that-keep-on-giving in the values clarification department.

And as long as Michele ... or Kim or Rick or Lindsay keep giving me stuff to comment on, I'll comment on it.

Meanwhile -- to the gist of the post -- it is a perfect (IMHO) of the stark contrast between the two worldviews being articulated. And I find that is making for an exciting albeit challenging time to be a follower of Jesus.

Really?

Michele Bachman, who owes her entire career to exploiting homophobia, seems baffled over criticism about the state and federal funding her family has received, while blaming the sick and hungry for depending on government assistance. It’s not at all baffling that someone like this gets called out.

The organized right justifies its draconian policies toward the poor with “Christian” moral arguments right out of Ayn Rand. It’s not at all baffling to see Rand Paul being called out. The hypocrisy, ignorance and cruelty of it all can leave you speechless.

This is indeed about two conflicting world views. We are either “one people, one planet,” or, “It’s every man for himself” (women and children, good luck).
