Closer to home, here are photos I've taken over the last 48 hours of the fire's progression from my West Altadena eye's view:
.
As I write, it's showing 104 on the thermometer on the porch and there's a steady hum of planes and helicopters overhead dropping fire retardant on the hillside. Prayers invited for all those in harm's way ... most particularly for those brave firefighters who put themselves there to protect us.
UPDATE 6pm: Added some late afternoon photos to the group above. Things have calmed down considerably here for the moment -- and we're hoping it stays that way.

great pictures - my mom lives east of you - new york & mar vista....Lord, let the winds die down & the temps drop.
Google mapping opens my eyes to your proximity to the Station Fire. Am I right that you are just across the wide arroyo from JPL? And that's the Station Fire not far behind the JPL?
I'm praying for a break in the weather--winds to die down and humidity up or even rain please! And God bless the firefighters and
EMS folks. Lord, have mercy.
Yep ... we're on the east end of the long block that t-bones into the arroyo. We can JPL from the turnout at the end of our street ... so all those live stand-up newscasts with JPL in the background is at the end of our block.
Prayers that all stay safe.
Yes, I pray that the fire slows downs and that there is a break in the weather. My daughter lives in Pasadena and she says it's pretty bad. She's not as close as you are but those fires change direction rather quickly. I also pray that that no lives are lost.
Susan--I hope and pray that your neighborhood is not called to evacuate, and that you may serve your neighbors with patience and in safety. --I'm ALWAYS praying for the firefighters!
Prayers for protection for all in danger from the wildfire.
Prayers for you and all in danger.
Prayers for you and all those in the path of the fire. Extra prayers for those fighting to keep you safe.
Prayers for you and your family and friends all in the line of fire and especially the four-legged friends.
Stay safe.
Susan -- we just drove from Barstow to Bakersfield -- saw the smoke plume which blotted out the sun. Prayers for you and all.
Prayers continue to be offered here for those in personal danger, those at risk of losing their home, and most particularly for the parishoners of All Saints.
