Song of the Day

This one's for you, President "Born in the USA" Obama.
.

Now ... for the record: Obama was really born in the Hawaii. JFK is really dead. And the Moonwalk really happened. Everybody back under their rocks and let the rest of us get back to work on liberty and justice for all.

Just wondering why it took so long for him to put up the original document? I always believed he was born in HI, and was annoyed about misinformation surrounding the whole thing. Especially when people questioned his Citizenship. If your Mother is American, that makes you eligible for US Citizenship, no matter where you are born, or where you spend your childhood. [cut off being 7 years outside the USA.] Clearly he is American, natural born Citizen. Although, if he would have been born 2 years earlier...Hawaii was a US Territory, not a state.

It is sad, though, how the documents tell the story of his young life. His Mother was 17 years old, just out of high school when she got pregnant by Mr. Obama, the 25 year old college student, [who was already married, to a woman in Kenya who was pregnant at the time with their 2nd child.] I don't know how long they knew each other, but they married quickly, lived separate lives, and divorced quickly. [I don't think the marriage between Obama Sr., and Ms. Stanley Dunham could be recognized by the state of HI, since he was already married.] This was known before -- so I don't think this is why Obama did not want to release the original BC.

this, is in no way any type of judgement against Obama... these things happen. And look how well the story turned out! I think his most lasting legacy will be as husband to michelle, and father to his children.

Hawai'ian law does not permit exposure of the "long form" without exigent circumstances I believe. The "short form" which is also officialwas released years ago. Official verification by the authorities allowed him to run for office. This stupidity is merely another way to try to delegitimize Mr Obama because he's black. Racism is a scar on this country.

Aww, c'mon IT; the racism card is just as bogus as the birther card. No one accused George W bashers of racism. As with W, there are plenty of reasons to choose from to dislike the president. Whoever the next president is and whatever his skin color, there will just as many haters of him/her as there have been for presidents past and present.

The silliness over the birth certificate is truly baffling to me. I hope all that silliness will go away, but I'm afraid the loonies behind the madness will just decide that the certificate is a fake and continue making fools out of themselves.

IT is correct. Is it a coincidence that the folks “baffled” by the birth certificate nonsense see the racism card as “bogus?” Those that seek to delegitmize President Obama will do so until he is no longer black, just as those who seek to delegitimize Bishop Gene Robinson will do so until he is no longer gay.

Let's compare the controversy over Obama's birth with that over Obama's opponent in the 2008 election, John McCain.

McCain said he was born in the U.S. Canal Zone although no records have been found supporting his birth there. McCain did have a birth certicate and there was a story in a local newspaper announcing his birth.

Because the U.S. Canal Zone was then a U.S. territory, not a U.S. state, there was in fact a bona fide dispute as to whether McCain was a "natural born citizen" of the U.S., a requirement to become the U.S. president.

Before the 2008 election two leading attorneys, one Democratic and the other Republican, concluded that McCain met the constitutional requirement. The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution finding that McCain was a "natural born citizen."

You can read all the details in this Washington Post article -- McCain's Birth Abroad Stirs Legal Debate:
His Eligibility for Presidency Is Questioned
.

While this legal support would have had no binding affect on any court, the issue seemed to have completely dropped away six months before the election.

Compare this to Obama. There's been no evidence whatsoever that he was born anywhere else other than Hawaii. The state has made public the "short form" birth certificate -- which is valid for all legal purposes -- for years. And there was even a newspaper story of his birth in the Honolulu newspaper. And despite all the evidence supporting one side, this issue has not dropped away like it did for McCain. And you have one presidential candidate beating on the birther drum and the Speaker of the House saying the issue was beyond his pay grade (even though the Senate unanimously supported McCain on this issue),

So what's the difference between the treatment of McCain and Obama? Politics, yes, of course. But racism appears to be a pretty good answer, too.

Racism is not the reason that Americans were curious about Obama's early life...and wondered if he met the Qualifications to become President of the United States.

Unconventional & peripatetic describes his early life, [which surely shaped his core beliefs and values.] Neither his mother's parents nor his father's parents were in favor of the Durham/Obama 'Marriage'. Does that make them racists? I suppose it does by Left-Liberal reasoning.

Obama's mother was an Atheist, and his father was a Muslim. Their marriage was basically over when it started.[mainly because he was already married]. Durham divorced Obama's father, then married another Non-US citizen, Muslim, Lolo Soetoro, and then she divorced him a few years later as well. All the while moving her young son in & out of the US, and into Indonesia where Islam stringently ruled.

Senator John McCain was born in 1936, Panama Canal Zone, to American parents, both Christian. His father was a 4-star Admiral in the USNavy. There was question about McCain being a Natural Born Citizen, [which he wasn't!]. However living 14+ continuous years in the USA satisfied that requirement.

I've lived in 5 different countries on 4 continents, and here's a News Flash: 'every one is racist --to some degree.' It's wrong, but it it's ingrained & part of the fallen world we live in. [by the way, USA is the least racist country by far.]

When Christ returns, and makes a New Earth, racism will be gone for good, but not until then...

The U.S. Constitution says nothing about “Unconventional & peripatetic . . . early life,” or parental disapproval of a candidate’s marriage disqualifying a presidential candidate, nor does it mandate being born of Christian parents.

Qualifications? The Republicans ran a guy who didn’t know how many houses he owned and a woman who didn’t know which newspapers she read against a guy who had been president of the Harvard Law Review and a law professor. The better-qualified candidate won convincingly.

And now, because an election was lost by conservatives, we’re all living under the tyranny of a Kenyan-born Muslim Marxist, according to Rightwing-Conservative “reasoning.” Now the GOP wants to run Mitt Romney, who thinks that Barack Obama is a “peacetime” President. That will come as news to the families with relatives currently serving in Afghanistan.

Haley Barbour says that life in Mississippi “wasn’t that bad” during the Jim Crow era, and Rand Paul wants to bring back segregation for private businesses, but Glenn Beck says that’s it’s our President who is the racist.

LG, isn’t there a difference between your allegation that “every one is racist --to some degree” and state-sanctioned racism?

Luckily the Rapture is coming on May 21st

I don't know about you but that doesn't sound like an answer that's going to pass the "inasmuch as you've done it to the least of these, you've done it to me quiz" on the Last Day.

I'm just sayin' ...

Ah, the Christianist supremicist comes out! As though McCain was "more qualified" becuase he was "Chrisitan"? Or because he was white?

Newsflash: my personal opinion is that most self-described "Christians" are not qualified to be dog-catcher, let alone president.

Sorry to be harsh, but this tribalist attitude is really offensive. I am Christian-friendly (being married to one) but I am NOT Christian, and Christian supremacy offends me mightily.

Many of the most Christian people I know are atheists. I'm with Gandhi:I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

Okay, okay; I stand corrected. Trump is a racist. And here I thought he was just a publicity whore. My bad.

The constitutional requirement of "natural born" is concerned only with the location at the moment of birth.

The fact that one lives outside the U.S. during one's childhood is irrelevant.

The fact that one lives all or most of one's life in the U.S. after the moment of birth is also irrelevant. This applies to, for example, both McCain and Schwarzenegger.

There are, of course, very good arguments that this constitutional rule is idiotic. But until it's removed, it's there and it applies.
