I said it on Thinking Anglicans, and I'll say it here:

If Lambeth were this summer, instead of last, would Rowan Cantuar DARE disinvite (much less order "arrest on sight"! :-0) the Bishop of New Hampshire?

[I have a sneaking suspicion that the President of the United States currently has "higher favorability numbers" in the UK, than does the ABC. ;-/]

Since Tuesday I've been saying "It's a great day to be an American!"

Yay! And I agree with JCF. Being welcomed in by the Obama administration and included as part of the country's faith community means soooo much more than Lambeth. A raspberry for ++Rowan, and three cheers for our President!

What a beautiful photo. Thanks for sharing. Ella is looking more like her mom every day but also has Gene's nice smile. What a happy day to be Episcopalian.

Bishop's Robinson's next project should be to make an Episcopalian out of Barack Obama. The Church of Sts. Monica & James, Capitol Hill, would be perfect for him. They have an Afro-American Rector; it is Anglo-Catholic; and they have a multiracial congregation. That would score political points as well as provide him, his beautiful wifie, and his darling little daughters with a proper place to worship.

David, you must not recall the old line (you'll see how old): Today no one from the Pope to Mao Tse Tung is quite safe from the possibility he might be an Anglican. Relax. Obama is as Anglican as he is anything else. And Anglicans of course are whatever they are. Is the parish you mention "Perfect" because the rector is black?? Nothing racist here; the church of James Pike can't have White Christianity like this, can it?

Poor President Obama, everyone is trying to push him into one church or another. See Something Within for the suggestions there.

Personally I don't care what church, synagogue, temple, or mosque he belongs to (if any) as long as he is wise, inclusive, intelligent, just, and merciful (and as long as he finds a refuge for a few hours each week from the pressures of his job). I'm glad he seems to be getting along well with Bishop Robinson since Robinson seems to hold inclusiveness and love as important values. Though I do wonder if Rick Warren has a similar set of pictures to take home. Perhaps a more important goal for Robinson is to turn Warren into a liberal Christian; one that can see beauty (as a non-theist I'm not going to say 'God') in a loving marriage even if both partners are the same sex.
