Kenya: Anglican Bishops Warn of Split

[Nairobi] African Anglican bishops yesterday warned of a split among faithful unless the mother church stopped embracing homosexuality by September 30.
Led by Nigeria's Archbishop Peter Akinola and Kenya's Benjamin Nzimbi, the bishops said if Canterbury "does not come back to us by September 30, we will decide whether they will continue being with us or not."
"Let us know if they will have stopped celebrating same sex marriages and ordaining homosexuals," Bishop Akinola who is the chairman of the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa ...

Spledid idea that! the African church leaders joining with Rome, then let the Anglican experiment continue.
I think on some level some of the CofE folks imagine that the focus on TEC keeps the primates off their back...how disappointed Williams must be at how little his 30 pieces of silver bought him.
I don't know, Susan, but calling the Primates 'petulant' seems to go against the respect that the 'polity,etc.,' of our church and tradition demand. The more I read here, the more I see that about the only interpretive grid that you have in place is oppressed via oppressor.
No concession will make this go away. We are postponing the inevitable. The Anglican Communion has ceased to be a viable vehicle for carrying God's mission and the cause of Christ forward in our day. We ought to focus on bilateral relationships. Multilateral talks have failed.
The only Lenten fast we should consider is a fast from injustice.
Oh, I don't know how seriously to take the report. Many religion reporters don't know squat so get the details wrong.

If this is true, then I'm laughing up my cassock sleeve -- at the folly committed by the ABC, at (good one, res publica) his 30 pieces of silver, at the outright gall of such a statement! An ultimatum to the ABC?!? Oh, PLEASE, +Abuja, dig your hole a bit deeper.
The more I read of all of this, the more I am happy that I remember why it is a good thing to be a member of the Anglican Communion -- otherwise we'd go running into the night.
OK, OK, OK, I can't remember why it's a good thing to be (metaphorically) in bed with these people.
Can anyone give me a good reason that we don't send Rowan a pound of Lipton and call it quits? Seems to have worked fairly well with public polity.
