Just this once..."Go Dodgers!"

Kirkepiscatoid

St. Louis Cardinals fan since birth, which means I've been hating the Cubs for almost a half century now....

(But I have to remind you, Susan, about the "Go Crazy" left handed switch-hitting home run hit by Ozzie Smith off of Tubby Tommy Niedenfuer on Oct. 14, 1985 in the playoffs that just BAAAARRRRREEEEELY made it over the fence, to assuage my guilt over actually rooting for the Dodgers here...of course, Ozzie Smith WAS a Dodgers fan growing up...and I'm really not rooting FOR the Dodgers, I'm rooting AGAINST the disgusting Cubs...well, you get the drift...)

Dear Rev. Russell:

If you know anyone in the Dodger front office, you might suggest they fly Bartman (the guy who grabbed the foul ball out of the hand of the Cubs in their last playoffs and started a run of bad luck that led to their loss) to Los Angeles for the games.

I know a lot of Cub fans back here and they are very superstitious (as is there team) and just a Bartman sighting in or near the stadium will send them into a coniption.

Sorry, dear friend. On this one we must disagree:

GO CUBS!

I have to tell you, Susan, John is watching his third game of the day. (I hope your committee meeting is over.) These are the high holy days of baseball and my honey worships mightily. Go Dodgers (first time ahead in a post-season series in 20 years)!

Dear Rev. Russell:

A great start! Usually the Cubs don't collapse until they've won a game or two.

Go Cubs! From a Red Sox fan living in Chicago I've got two reasons to favor the Cubs. One, so that the local team can advance to the World Series to be defeated by the Red Sox, and the other is so that Manny is not rewarded for his selfish behavior.

Nothing personal against the Dodgers on the latter score, mind you. But it's one thing to jump teams over money - business is business. That's what Johnny Damon and Pedro Martinez did. It's quite another to break an existing contract (that was going to pay him $20M a year to play baseball) by not giving 100% on the field and lying about non-existent injuries. So enjoy Manny, because he'll do some amazing feats and provide some low comedy at the same time. But watch out - he'll turn on you for selfish reasons.

Ronf, if it is Red Sox vs Cubs, no team will win!

I am a life long White Sox fan, but I wish the Cubs well until the first game in the Cell. Then we take them! :-)

The one game I want is game 7, Sox v. Cubs. I will even buy my lovely if baseball heterodox wife a Cubs hat to wear!

Go Cubs (for a while)
Go White Sox (forever!)

OTOH I wish Derek Lowe (another member of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox) nothing but the best. As long as he's not pitching against the Red Sox in the WS.

Now see, Jim, if the Red Sox and the Cubs had met in 2003 then it would have been a sure sign of the Apocalypse. But now that the Red Sox have won (twice!) the spiritual disaster has been averted.

Dear Rev. Russell:

It's going to be a tough day in the Windy City today!

Even a 53-year Dodger fan like me has to feel a little (very little) twinge of sadness for the Cubbies.

That said, Go Blue!
