Bearing in mind I do not myself subscribe to the "Christian nation" notion, this still offers enough food for thought for those of us who are Christians in the nation that it wins my vote for Budget Dilemma Quote of the Day:

Yes, Christians [not the govt.] help the poor & needy by giving out of their own hearts/ & pockets. They prayerfully consider who to give to...whether it be their neighbor down the street, the after school tutoring program, orphanages in Thailand, etc. And we consider it a God given privilige to freely give where we choose to. [Some Christians avoid certain charities for religious reasons.]
Mandatory state,local, federal, taxes pay for 'necessary' USGovt services to run smoothly.. [well at least they try ] i.e., Law Enforcement, Schools, Prisons, Infrastructure, Military, Post Office, & Social services/ Welfare.[even though some of the services provided are against our Religion.]
Nevertheless-- All of these Free Services help the poor & needy, a lot! ['Free', being a relative term, meaning at no cost to the poor & needy that don't pay income tax, but do cost 1/2 of the American people who pay 100% of all income tax collected].
American Christians, [the most generous people on the planet], already help the poor & needy by paying taxes, 33% on each dollar, and then on top of that, they give another 10%.
Dear Mr. Obama, Raising taxes has not helped the poor & needy much at all, because govt programs & services are often mismanaged and wasteful, with ever increasing demands for more $$ for less return.
Raising taxes again, has, and will back-fire, because now the 'givers' have less money to 'give'. The poor are now worse off.
If we could cut more govt. spending, & limit what our collective monies pay for --then more Americans could give to the poor & needy, build business, invest, and spend on goods & services. [all which benefit society, which doubly helps poor & needy, because it decreases that likelihood ].
